UWI Alumni / InfoChannel in Strategic Alliance
KINGSTON, Jamaica ... July 2002

In a move to ensure that graduates of the University of the West Indies (UWI) continue to have easy access to the Internet, the Guild of Graduates of the Mona Campus has entered a "strategic alliance" with InfoChannel, the Caribbean's leading Internet Service Provider (ISP), which now makes it possible for members of the Guild to benefit from "volume discounts on Internet usage".

According to Mrs. Celia Davidson Francis, Executive Director for Alumni Affairs at the UWI, the agreement with InfoChannel that was signed recently, comes under the "Guild Plus" programme which actively pursues avenues through which members of the guild can "get preferential rates and other benefits from leading companies."

"We are very pleased to be partnering with InfoChannel and welcome their initiative to work with us to encourage our alumni to strengthen their ties with the University, even as they access goods and services that are useful in both their personal and professional lives", Mrs. Davidson Francis said.

Commenting on the arrangements with the UWI, Chief Marketing Officer of InfoChannel, Mr. Herman McDonald who signed the agreement on behalf of his company, said the alliance will not only assist graduates to continue to use the Internet at affordable rates but also help the UWI to improve communication with past students. "Through the programme which aims to reach both existing and new members of the guild, InfoChannel is offering assistance to initiate a

Graduate Recognition membership drive by providing graduates residing in Jamaica with an Unlimited Access Internet account", Mr. Mc Donald explained.

"We recognize that students do not have unlimited budgets and that new graduates need a helping hand as they make the transition to the world of work. The programme is designed with special packages and reduced rates to assist them to make that change," Mr. McDonald said.

Upon sitting their final exams, all students who become members of the Alumni Association will be eligible to hold a UWI Alumni InfoChannel Internet account. Graduates wishing to benefit from this programme are asked to contact the Guild Docuspot office at the UWI Mona main library
